The Art Behind the Artwork
Unlike a traditional landscape captured from a single viewpoint, The Lakes is an original panoramic composition created from hundreds of individual illustrations. Meticulously researched and developed over five months, the artwork draws inspiration from the Lake District’s rich history, architecture, wildlife, traditions, and local stories.
Combining traditional and digital illustration techniques, Kathryn has carefully brought together individually illustrated elements to create one seamless journey through Cumbria. Rather than existing as a single traditional painted original, the completed composition is presented through limited-edition archival fine art prints, with selected editions individually hand-embellished by Kathryn.

Every edition of The Lakes is accompanied by a companion book magnifying glass and certificate of authenticity, inviting collectors to explore the hundreds of tiny characters, landmarks, and stories within the artwork.
Hand-embellished editions offer an additional dimension, featuring individually applied paint, artistic details, and hidden UV-reactive elements that can be discovered using the accompanying UV light. Each hand-finished artwork is individually enhanced by Kathryn in her studio, making every single piece distinctive.
